Megan whalen turner the thief series6/23/2023 Turner’s story is heavy on politics and reality, which makes its mysterious supernatural implications irresistible. The reasons why he travels across the country, and what his companions need a thief for, trickle out slowly alongside intrigue and banter. Set in a preindustrial Hellenistic world with a vividly imagined history and mythology, the book’s titular pickpocket, Gen, is a charming scoundrel who’s sprung from jail and drafted for a mysterious mission. "I began with Turner’s 1996 novel, which I’d loved in middle school but mostly forgotten. "These are the titles that reignited our love for literature." The latter is what I’m looking at for in this review and apparently it’s a different interpretation of what happens in the series, but I’m not going to be doing any comparisons as I won’t be finishing the series until the second part gets released in a few weeks and it wouldn’t affect the quality of the film in any way. Golgo 13? Hamtaro? Black Jack? The only two films he directed that are attached to series he also did are Aim for the Ace and Space Adventure Cobra. I did notice that almost all of them are franchise films though. Now I admit to never seeing any of Dezaki’s non-Key films, let alone finishing any one of his f*cking long series that drag so much that they make me want to throw my hands in the air, turn off the screen, and go hang around on Twitter like an anti-social After years of searching, I finally found an Osamu Dezaki anime I liked more than the one with the angsty boy who never does anything and the sweet girl who sings about dangos and ended up dying in the last third because it’s not a touching drama until someone is dead. Eyes like stars by lisa mantchev6/22/2023 “Not the best of timing,” Cobweb singsonged, hanging upside down at the end of his line, “mucking up your head right before a ten o’clock summons.” “Nervous about your call to the Theater Manager’s Office?” Moth asked, chasing Peaseblossom in circles. “Going in there with fairy guts on your hands isn’t going to make a good impression!” Unperturbed by the threat, Mustardseed swung by her like a demented pendulum. “If you make me spill this stuff on the stage,” she said, “I’ll squeeze you until your heads pop off.” Beatrice Shakespeare Smith, busy assessing her reflection in the looking glass and thinking perhaps she shouldn’t have dyed her hair blue on this particular morning, turned to glare at them when they rocketed past the end of her nose for the third time in as many minutes. I grew up in a greaser neighborhood, and I got put into what you’d call AP classes these days. The whole class warfare thing was absolutely going on in my high school. Us: Was it based on the experiences you were going through at the time? There wasn’t anything realistic being written about teen life at that time. I liked writing since I learned how to read, and I had been writing for about eight years when I wrote The Outsiders, so it wasn’t just all of sudden I could sit and write a book. I went back and put in more details, flashbacks, new little asides. The year I was 16, my junior year of high school, was the year I really put the work in. The first draft was about 40 pages long, single-spaced type. Us: What inspired you to write The Outsiders? Hinton: Pretty old! How many writers get to experience this, though? I’m trying to enjoy it. Us Weekly: How does this monumental anniversary make you feel? Hinton attends the 14th annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books – Day 2 at UCLA on April 26, 2009, in Los Angeles. |
